The Salter Typewriter

Wanted: Salter No.5 Typewriter

In 1892, The Salter No.5 was the first typewriter to be made in England for commercial sale. It featured a beautiful curved keyboard and Victorian inspired embellishments. The Salter No.5 had front downstrike typebar arrangement. The latter versions of this model, like the one on this page, were labeled "Improved No.5." Some No.5's were rebranded for foreign markets as La Rapide, Salter-Perfect, Royal-Express and Birch. These typewriters were produced by George Salter & Company of West Bromwich, England.
