This Oliver No.1 typewriter was the model that started it all for an absolutely iconic company, The Oliver Typewriter Company of Chicago, Illinois, though the actual production of the typewriter took place in Epworth, Iowa (later production was moved to Woodstock, IL.). You'll note that this model was almost completely nickel plated and it had handles flush with the base.
