The Melotyp was the successor to the Nototyp, both of which were music typewriters. Their inventor was Gustave Rundstatler of Berlin, Germany who based their overall design on Adler's No.7 model. The Nototyp was marketed by both Nototyp-Rundstatler GmbH and by Notoscript-Rundstatler GmbH which were really the same Berlin based company. The Melotyp was marketed by Melotyp-Export Rechnitz & Co. at 83 Hohenzollerndamm in the  in the Wilmersdorf district of Berlin.

The Archo music typewriter is a variant of the Melotyp.
