The McElroy Point Writer, a braillewriter (braille typewriter) for the blind, was patented in 1888 by James F. McElroy of Lansing, Michigan. The patent was assigned to The American Printing House for the Blind of Louisville, Kentucky. American Printing House then had McElroy's Point Writing Machine manufactured by the Tafel Brothers company, also of Louisville.
