Starting with the "P" model, like the example on this page, the Royal Typewriter Co. began offering a premium gold plating option for those that could afford such luxury. I don't know of any earlier examples with the exotic finish but several later ones are known, included the Dreyfuss QDL, 1950s QDL, Royal Futura and KMM. There are probably others as well that have yet to be discovered. Most of these typewriters were produced in Royal's Hartford, CT factory.
