The Dodson typewriter was invented by Darien W. Dodson when he was just 23 years old. He was awarded patent no.416,257 for it on December 3, 1889 while living in Town Line, Pennsylvania. There is a known photo of the actual machine so at least one example, prototype or patent model was produced. The Dodson was one of just a few typewriters that printed along a vertical platen.
