Wanted: Commercial No.5 Typewriter
Commercial typewriters were developed by Richard Uhlig, ca.1898. The two most common models were the No.5 (like the one on this page) & the No.6. They were produced by the Commercial Typewriter Company of New York though some may have the company's original name on them, the Visible Typewriters Co. Commercial typewriters utilized a typewheel for print delivery which was actuated by a double-shift, three-row keyboard. They also featured a seductive, thin-waisted form which makes them desirable today. The Fountain Typewriter was either the predecessor or a model that was produced concurrently with the Commercial No.5.
